Xiaolangdi is located on the main stream
of Yellow River 40 km north of Luoyang, Henan province, at the critical location
in controlling mud and sand of the lower Yellow River. xiaolangdi Key Water Control
Project is an exceptionally large-scale construction project aiming to control floods,
reduce sand and mud deposits, and also presue other comprehensive benefits like
irrigation, supplying water and generation electricity.

control over the lower reaches of Yellow River had been improved, from being able
to tackle the catastrophic flood occurring in every 60 years to that of every 1000
years.
